The magical place where it all began…..

A dry, grassy field with a rustic wooden fence and leafless bushes, hills in the background under a cloudy sky.

The story of La Jara

A lifetime ago, I lived in La Jara, in the wide-open desert of New Mexico. There nothing was wasted, everything had a second life. We recycled, repurposed, and learned to transform the old into something functional and beautiful again.

Days were filled with simple joys - scouring the desert for arrowheads, cooking underground with our Navajo neighbours, sharing beers with the cowboys at the Golden Spur, or partying at fiestas with our Mexican friends. At night, we’d fill the back of the pickup with blankets, load up the dogs, and drive into the desert to lie back and star gaze. Life was raw and real. We grew our own vegetables, pumped our own water, and lived by the sun. We worked hard, enjoyed life and lived in every moment.

It was there, under that vast desert sky, that my true love for restoring and creating was born—a passion that continues to shape every vintage piece I revamp today. Sourcing lamps and fabrics and bringing these forgotten objects back to life, brings true joy. I hope you will feel just a little bit of the magic of La Jara in every lamp and shade.

“La Jara lamps have brightened up our newly renovated home. With their beautiful colours, handmade quality, unique style and admirable approach to sustainable sourcing, we love the lights and the warmth they bring”
